TOUR-001-WAITOMO GLOWWORM CAVES-The Waitomo Glowworm Caves attraction is a cave at Waitomo, known for its population of glowworms, Arachnocampa luminosa. Under the green hills of Waitomo lies a labyrinth of caves, sinkholes and underground rivers. The area's name comes from the Maori words wai (water) and tomo (hole). The caves were carved by underground streams pushing through soft limestone over thousands of years. Many have amazing stalactites growing down from the ceiling and stalagmites growing up from the cave floor, pointy cones of layered rock formed over centuries by dripping water. The cave walls are also decorated with galaxies of native glow worms. This species is found exclusively in New Zealand.
They are around the size of an average mosquito. This cave is part of the Waitomo Caves system that includes the Ruakuri Cave and the Aranui Cave. Enjoy the world famous boat ride under thousands of magical glowworms. Glide silently through the starry wonderland of the Glowworm Grotto. Meander underground along the Waitomo River and gaze in silence at the myriad of glow worm lights that make up the Glowworm Grotto. More than 30 million years ago, the legend of Waitomo began with the creation of limestone at the bottom of the ocean. Now these limestone formations stand as one of New Zealand's most inspiring natural wonders. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves were first explored in 1887 by local Maori Chief Tane Tinorau accompanied by an English surveyor Fred Mace. There are two levels to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves which are 16 meters apart. The upper level is dry and includes the entrance to the cave, and formations known as the Catacombs, the Pipe Organ and the Banquet Chamber. The lower level consists of stream passages and the Cathedral. All photography is strictly forbidden.2 hours 40 mins from Auckland. The guided tour through the Waitomo Glowworm Caves brings the visitor through three different levels and begins at the top level of the cave and the Catacombs. The levels are linked by the Tomo.
a-Boat Ride-Marvel at Mother Nature's light display as you glide silently through the starry wonderland of the Glowworm Grotto. Meander underground along the Waitomo River and gaze in silence at the myriad of glow worm lights that make up the Glowworm Grotto. As you enter this galaxy of tiny living lights, you'll immediately experience a serene ambience and be fascinated and intrigued by tiny glowworms that light your way.
i-The Cathedral-The Cathedral is on the lower level of the Waitomo Glowworm Caves and at 18 meters in height, this is the largest cavern. It is world-renowned for its superb acoustics, which are due to the enclosed shape and rough surface. Many famous singers and choirs have performed here and have been delighted with the purity of the sound.
ii- The Tomo-The Tomo is one of the wonders of Waitomo, it is a 16 meter vertical limestone shaft which marks the course of an ancient waterfall which today on flows during heavy rains. The dramatic vertical drop is carefully lighted to show the scalloped walls and the layers of limestone. The Tomo was the last feature of the cave to be formed and links the upper level to the Waitomo River below.
Ticket-NZ$49.00

Tour-002- WHITE ISLAND TOURS -Being a live volcano, lies 48 kilometres off New Zealand's Bay of Plenty coastline of New Zealand’s North Island, this is one of the world’s most accessible live volcanoes.White Island is best accessed by boat from Whakatane, or by helicopter. The Whakatane is about 90kms from Rotura and drives takes 1hour 15 minutes. White Island has been in a near continuous stage of smoking since it was discovered by James Cook in 1769. With the majority of the volcano sitting beneath the sea it means to disembark directly into the crater complex – no mountain climbing required. Visitors are able to get up close to roaring steam vents, bubbling pits of mud, hot volcanic streams and the amazing lake of steaming acid. The vivid hues of yellow and orange resulting from the abundant Sulphur on the island. The Island is now used for two main purposes scenic guided tours and for geological research. The island is roughly circular, about 2 km in diameter, and rises to a height of 321 m (1,053 ft.) above sea level. The main vent is below sea level protected by the crater walls and is responsible for the activity in the islands crater lake and volcanic vents (fumeroles).White Island is surrounded by waters rich in fish life and the area is a renowned fishery for Yellow tail Kingfish and in the summer months game fish and Dolphins abound.
i-By Cruise-When you leave the sheltered harbor at Whakatane you pass by a statue to the Maori maiden Wairaka, who saved an important canoe from being washed away by breaking tribal bans on women paddling and into the bay. About one third of the way from Whakatane you get to see Whale Island which, as the name would suggest, has the shape of a whale. Despite its name White Island is actually a browny, grey from a distance and got its title from Captain James Cook who saw the steam pouring off it and didn't go close enough to see what was causing the whiteness. So before you got into the inflatable boat to go to the island will be issued hardhats and gas masks. The fumes on White Island can affect some people - with headaches or nausea - so we would recommend wearing the masks. At the ancient dock you climb up some steel ladders, along a concrete wharf, over some rusting steel bridges and then clamber over rocks to hit the beach - and there you are on a live volcano. The crater of White Island is actually three separate ones that have joined together and you can see the parts of the opposite walls where once they had connected - before the eruptions that is. The crater lake - fairly recently formed - is a turquoise color and steams like many similar ones in the geothermal area of Rotorua.
Experienced guides will lead you on a two hour exploration of the inner crater, providing a fascinating commentary on the geology of the island as well as stories of attempts to mine Sulphur. Along with volcanic and geothermal features, you will see the remains of the Sulphur factory which have survived multiple eruptions since being abandoned in the 1930s. Viewing the outer walls of the island where Pohutukawa forests grow and large Australasian Gannet colonies exist. There is an opportunity to spend time viewing dolphins, whales and other marine life.
Tour depart from Whakatane at 9.15am and returns at 3.15pm. (Includes 1.5 – 2 hour fully guided walking tour of White Island's inner crater area.)
Safety gear (gas mask and hard hat) is included.
Adult: NZ$199.00(with lunch but without transfer from Roturua)

ii-By Helicopter- Leaving the Rotorua city lakefront you fly north past the northern lakes district before crossing the coast on track to White Island. Arriving overhead the volcano enjoy aerial views of the active crater before landing on this lunar like surface. Here embark upon a leisurely guided tour of the island's crater floor to view active steam vents 'fumaroles', hot streams, vibrant Sulphur formations and the steaming crater. This landscape is constantly changing as the activity forms new features and removes old ones. The Crater Lake changes in depth and temperature so that from one day to the next the landscape is different.
Part of the tour includes a walk through crumbling mining ruins to view the weathered remains of what was a working factory built in 1923 and abandoned in 1933. Tours on this privately owned volcano are conducted by the pilot / guide whose knowledge about the island's history and geology enhances the experience. Return flights to and from the island takes in aerial views of the wider Bay of Plenty.

Superheated water rose to the surface, escaping through any vent it could find. Wooden walkways have been constructed to protect visitors from the heat of the soil. Craters of the Moon is a public attraction and charges a small fee to keep the walkway maintained etc.
