NIAGRA FALLS,CANADA
GENERAL INFORMATION-Niagara Falls, Canada is a pleasant city on the edge of the Niagara Gorge, at the site of the famous Niagara Falls. The city is located on the western bank of the Niagara River. Both the American and Horseshoe falls can be best seen from the Canadian side of the river, so the city has one of the major tourist attractions of the world. The first person to attempt to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel was a 63-year-old woman. Seeking fame and fortune, schoolteacher Annie Taylor loaded herself – and her cat – up in a barrel and descended over the falls in 1901. She survived. A new Niagara Daredevil exhibit, with barrels and all, is available at the IMAX Niagara Theatre.
GEOGRAPHY- The city is built along the Niagara Falls waterfalls and the Niagara Gorge on the Niagara River, which flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario.
NIAGARA FALLS- Located in a strait between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, and shared by the United States and Canada, the Falls have become a popular vacation spot for families and honeymooners alike. This natural wonder is one of our planet’s most famous waterfalls. With heights of 176 feet, and a colossal 150,000 gallons of water crashing down per second. The Falls at Niagara are about 12,000 years old. Falls were formed when melting glaciers formed massive fresh-water lakes (the Great Lakes) one of which (Lake Erie) ran downhill toward another (Lake Ontario). The rushing waters carved out a river in their descent and at one point passed over a steep cliff like formation (the Niagara escarpment). The path that it left is known today as the Niagara Gorge (a deeply-cut and very scenic river path). Niagara Falls, more specifically, is the name of three waterfalls - the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The amount of water depends on two variables. The time of year, and the time of the day. Flow is greatest over the Falls in the daytime during peak tourist season (June, July, and August).
i-The Canadian side of Niagara Falls located between Goat Island and Table Rock is known as the Horseshoe Falls. With the highest flow rate and beauty, Horseshoe Niagara Falls becomes a holiday spot for millions of people every year. The Horseshoe Falls are 167 feet high and allow 600,000galons of water over the crest line which is 2600ft wide, every minute during peak daytime.
ii-American Falls, which can be best described as the American Side of Niagara Falls, is comparatively a small waterfall lies far left of the Horseshoe Falls in the US State territory, New York between Prospect Point and Luna Island. The height of American Falls is 176 ft. and the Crestline is 1060 ft. wide and Estimated Water Flow per second is 150,000 gallons.
iii- The Bridal Veil is the smallest falls among the three waterfalls, that together known as the great Niagara Falls. The Bridal Veil Falls is in the US side located right to the American Falls separated by Luna Island. The Goat Island in the Canadian side separates it from Horseshoe Falls. The height of Bridal Veil Falls is 181 ft.
Note-There are over 500 waterfalls in the world are taller than Niagara Falls. But Niagara Falls is one of the biggest waterfalls in the world by the volume of flowing water at an average of 750,000 gallons each second.

NIAGARA RIVER- The Niagara River is a 'National Wonder' that stretched around 56km through Niagara Falls from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario. Elevation difference between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario is about 99 meters. This natural outlet is the greatest source of waterfalls and power generating stations in the region. More than 168,000 cubic meters (6 million cubic feet) of water go over the Crestline of the Falls every minute. The Niagara Gorge extends from the Falls for 11 kilometres (7 miles) downstream to the foot of the escarpment at Queenston.
HISTORY- The War of 1812 was a turning point in Niagara Falls history, when the fledgling United States army fought British Loyalists for the new lands that would become Canada. At Fort Erie, authentically dressed guides in 1812 period costume re-create life in this former British garrison. Fort Erie was also an entry point for freedom-seeking black slaves escaping persecution in the U.S. The point of entry into Canada from Buffalo, across the Niagara River, was known as “The Crossing” and the start of the Freedom Trail.
