GENERAL INFORMATION- Los Angeles is the “City of Angels” and the most populous city in the state of California and second in USA after New York City. Located in Southern California and also known as LA and inhabitants referred as “Angelenos”. HISTORY-Los Angeles was founded on September 4, 1781 by Spanish Governor Felipe de Neve and became part of Mexico in 1821 as it got independence from Spanish Empire. At the end of Mexican American War in 1848 Los Angeles and rest of California were purchased as part of Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo then became the part of USA. The Pueblo Plaza and Olvera Street are the oldest part in LA. Railroads arrived in 1876.Oil was discovered in 1892 and 1923 and became one of the largest producer of the oil in the world. It is the birth place of Internet. It has the third largest Mexican population in the world. It has numerous other ethnic-specific neighbourhoods like Korea Town, China Town, Little Tokyo, Little Osaka, Little Ethiopia, Thai Town, Historic Filipino Town, Little Armenia, Persian Square, and so on. The Los Angeles River, which is largely seasonal, is the primary drainage, lined in 51kms, channel. Los Angeles suffers from air pollution in the form of smog. The smog season lasts from May to October.

AIRPORT- Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the sixth busiest airport in the world and third busiest in the United States, offering 680 daily flights to 96 domestic cities, located at 26kms from Downtown Los Angeles. The central complex features is the nine passenger terminals connected by a U-shaped, two-level roadway. There is an observation deck, features a space-age interior design. The Observation Deck offers spectacular views and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Free shuttle bus service to airline terminals is provided from Lot C, located one-half mile northeast of the airport. Adjacent to Lot C is the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Bus Centre, which connects public bus systems with the courtesy LAX shuttle bus service to/from the terminals provided by the airport. A free, frequent shuttle bus connects LAX with Metro’s Green Line Light Rail, and free shuttle buses transport passengers between airline terminals. The LAX FlyAway® bus service provides frequent nonstop transportation between LAX and the new Exposition/La Brea Metro Rail Station, Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, the Van Nuys Bus Terminal and Westwood/UCLA. A-ATTRACTIONS & SIGHTS AT HOLLYWOOD - It is the main tourist area and has three fascinating boulevards: Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard and Melrose Avenue. All three are worth seeing. Hollywood Boulevard is known for its entertainment history, Sunset Boulevard for its clubs and nightlife and Melrose Avenue is for its shopping, nightlife, and eclecticism. The Metro Red Line subway which runs from Downtown to Valley has three stops which are, at Western Avenue, at Vine Street and at Highland Avenue. Metro Bus local lines 180,181,217 and Metro Rapid 780 serves the Hollywood Boulevard.

002-HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME-It consists of more than 2500 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalk along fifteen blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street .The stars are permanent monument to achievement in entertainment industry, bearing the name of actors, musicians, directors, producers and theatrical groups . The stars are spaced at 6foot interval .World famous stars are in front of TCL/Grauman's Chinese Theatre and Oscars winners near Highland/Kodak Theatre ,the site of Annual Academy Award presentation. 003-LA BREA GATEWAY/THE FOUR LADIES- It is also known as “The Four Ladies of Hollywood” stands upon a small triangular island formed by confluence of Hollywood Boulevard-Marsh Field Way-North La Brea Avenue at the west most of the Walk of Fame .It is a tribute to the multi-ethnic women of Hollywood . The gazebo is a stainless steel stylized Art Deco lattice structure. The roof is an arched square supporting a circular dome, which is topped by a central obelisk with descending neon block letters spelling "HOLLYWOOD" on each of its four sides. The sculpture of Marilyn Monroe in her iconic billowing skirt pose from The Seven Year Itch. The domed structure is held aloft by four caryatids sculpted represent the African-American actress Dorothy Dandridge, Asian-American actress Anna May Wong, Mexican actress Dolores del Río, and the multi-ethnic, Brooklyn-born actress Mae West.
004-TCL/GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATER-Chinese Theatre was commissioned following the success of the nearby Grauman's Egyptian Theatre. It is a movie theatre opened in May 1927.In the theatre till now three award ceremonies has been held .The most distinctive feature is that the signatures, footprints, hand prints of popular motion picture personalities are in concrete blocks and set in forecourt nearly 200 in nos. The theatre has capacity of 1152 persons. Buy the movie ticket and see the interior. Located at the north east corner of Hollywood Boulevard and Orange drive. About half hour to see the footprints. The facade is pretty at night. Grauman's Chinese Theatre and renamed Mann's Chinese Theatre in 1973, the current name of the theatre became official January 11, 2013, after TCL Corporation purchased the naming rights. The original theatre has been converted into an IMAX theatre in 2013. The Chinese IMAX ranks as the largest (seating) capacity IMAX theatre in the world.
005-DOLBY/KODAK THEATER HOLLYWOOD- This theatre is the crown jewel and home to the Academy Awards from 2002.It is situated at the corner of Hollywood and Highland shopping mall and entertainment complex .The tour duration to see the theatre is half hours, runs 7 days from 10.30 to 4pm. 006-GRAUMAN’S EGYPTIAN THEATRE-Grauman's Egyptian Theatre, is a noted movie theatre located at Hollywood Boulevard .Opened in 1922, it is an the site of the first-ever Hollywood film premiere of Robin Hood. The exterior and interior walls contain Egyptian-style paintings and hieroglyphics. The four massive columns that mark the theatre's main entrance are 4 1⁄2 feet wide and rise 20 feet. There is a large courtyard 45 feet wide and 150 feet long in the front, complete with a fountain and queen palm trees.
007-CAPITOL RECORDS BUILDING- It is a thirteen story building and is home to the Capitol Studio for the recording .Located at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine Street. It resembles like the stack of LP records on a turntable. The zoning height limit is 150-foot. The blinking light on the top spells out world “HOLLYWOOD” in Morse code. Its base features a mural depicting Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday and other jazz greats.
008- GROVE- The Grove is one of the mo popular megamalls in all of Los Angeles. A sprawling retail complex that resembles something that you might expect to find in Las Vegas, it opened in 2002 and features an enticing mix of shops and restaurants. Anchor stores include a Nordstrom and a Crate & Barrel. The restaurants come in the form of chain-brand establishments and local eateries. 009-BOB HOPE SQUARE-It is at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is centred on the intersection. Subway Station Hollywood Boulevard is located directly below the intersection for the Metro Red Line but the entrance/exit to the station is located one block east at Hollywood and Argyle Avenue.
010-HOLLYWOOD AND HIGHLAND CENTER-The Hollywood & Highland Centre is a shopping mall and entertainment complex at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue. This centre also includes TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and Mann's Chinese Theatre) and the Dolby Theatre (formerly known as the Kodak Theatre), home to the Academy Awards. It is among the most visited tourist destinations in Los Angeles. The centrepiece of the complex is a massive three-story courtyard inspired by the Babylon scene. Hollywood & Highland also houses 65,000 square feet of gathering spaces including the Grand Ballroom, used for the Oscars Governors Ball. The 637-room Loews Hollywood Hotel is also part of the site. The Highlands nightclub and Level 3 nightclub and a Lucky Strike Lanes bowling alley. The portion of the centre facing Hollywood Boulevard houses retail shops of GAP, American Eagle, Sephora, and Express. Metro Local lines 156, 212, 217, 222, 656 and Metro Rapid 780 serve Hollywood & Highland.
011-HOLLYWOOD ROOSEVELT HOTEL-The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is a historic hotel designed in the Spanish Colonial Revival style. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel hosted the presentation of the 1st Academy Awards in 1929 inside its Blossom ballroom.
012-CINERAMA DOME-It is of Pacific Theaters located at Sunset Boulevard near Vine Street .Presently it has 14 screens and complex called Arc Light Cinemas. It was designed based on Geodesic Dome to present widescreen Cinerama films, it opened November 7, 1963. But for the first time ever, the Cinerama Dome began showing movies in the three-projector format. It is one of only three such theatres in the world today.
013-HOLLYWOOD BOWL- It is a modern amphitheatre, used for the music performances with the capacity of 18,000 seats .The shell is set against the backdrop of Hollywood Sign. The "bowl" refers to the shape of the concave hillside the amphitheatre is carved into. The Bowl officially opened on July 11, 1922 on the site of a natural amphitheatre formerly known as the Daisy Dell.
014 -HOLLYWOOD SUBWAY TERMINAL-Now known as Metro 417, it is an Italian renaissance building located at 417 South Hill Street .It was built in 1925 and it serves as downtown terminus for the Hollywood Subway branch of the rail line. Currently it is a luxury apartment building. It is near the new Pershing Square Station where Red Line is running.
015-SUNSET STRIP-It is situated on West Hollywood and a stretch of Sunset Boulevard that passes through West Hollywood and is 2.4kms long .It is between Harper Avenue (Hollywood) and Sierra Drive (Beverley Hills).It is famous for the wall to wall advertisements. The Strip is probably the best-known portion of Sunset Boulevard, embracing boutiques, restaurants, rock clubs, and nightclubs that are on the cutting edge of the entertainment industry. It is also known for its trademark array of huge, colourful billboards. The highest concentration of celebrities living in Los Angeles are in this part of the Hollywood Hills, located just above Sunset Boulevard, from Kings Road, to Sunset Plaza Drive, to Doheny Drive.
016-FARMER'S MARKET & GROVE-The original farmer's Market was founded in 1934 and largest open market having more than 140 shops, restaurants and cafes .The newer grove has 60 shops of fashion and is connected by a trolley car. Near to this the grove is the mall.
017-LA BREA TAR PITS- Located in the heart of metropolitan Los Angeles, the Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits is one of the world’s most famous fossil localities. This onsite Museum displays Ice Age fossils — including saber-toothed cats, dire wolves and mammoths from 10,000 to 40,000-year-old asphalt deposits. Outside the Museum, in Hancock Park, the Pleistocene Garden and iconic life-size replicas of extinct mammals depict the life that once grew, and roamed, in the Los Angeles Basin.
018-LOS ANGELS COUNTY MUSEUM OF ART (LACMA)-It is an art museum located at Wilshire Boulevard and in the vicinity of Miracle Mile. LACMA is on Museum Row, and is adjacent to the George C. Page Museum and La Brea Tar Pits. LACMA is the largest art museum in the western United States. It attracts nearly a million visitors annually. LACMA's more than 120,000 objects are divided among its numerous departments by region, media, and time period and are spread amongst the various museum buildings. Located at 5905 Wilshire Boulevard. 019-CBS TELEVISION CITY- CBS Television City opened on November 16, 1952. It was built on the site of a former football field and race track, Gilmore Stadium. Before the stadium, it was an oil field. The complex located in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles at 7800 Beverly Boulevard. Since its inauguration in 1952, numerous TV shows have been broadcast live or taped at Television City, including many shows not broadcast on CBS.
020-PARAMOUNT STUDIO-Paramount Pictures is a film and television production/distribution studio ranked as one of the largest film studios. It has distributed various commercially successful film series, such as Shrek, Transformers, and Mission- Impossible, Marvel Cinematic Universe (2008–11), Indiana Jones (1981–2008), The Godfather, Star Trek. Paramount Pictures dates its existence from the 1912 founding date of the Famous Players Film Company. Guided tours of the studio are given Monday through Friday, at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM & 2 PM. No tours on weekends or holidays. Admission Price: $48 for the two-hour guided tour.
021-GRIFFITH OBSERVATORY & PARK-Griffith Park is the second largest park in the city. Sprawling over 4,200 acres, the parks offers hiking trails, bike paths and pony rides, as well as the Greek Theatre, Autry National Centre, Travel Town, Equestrian Centre and L.A. Zoo. Griffith Observatory is an icon of Los Angeles, a national leader in public astronomy, a civic gathering place, and one of southern California's most popular attractions. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the Los Feliz neighbourhood. It is 1,134 feet above sea level and is visible from many parts of the Los Angeles basin. Admission to the Observatory building and grounds is FREE. There is a nominal charge to see shows in the Samuel Oschin Planetarium.

023- BRADBURY BUILDING-304, South Broadway, LA built in 1893.The building has been set for many movies. Visitors are allowed into lobby and up to first landing of the staircase. The five-story central court features glazed and unglazed yellow and pink bricks, ornamental cast iron, and tiling. "Bird-cage" elevators surrounded by wrought-iron grillwork go up to the fifth floor. Geometric patterned staircases and wrought-iron and polished oak railings are used. From 2001 to 2003 the Museum of Architecture and Design had its home in the building. In 2007, the Morono Kiang Gallery of Chinese art opened in the building.
024-STAPLE CENTER – It is the venue of Laker (NBA), Clippers (NBA) and many concerts and conventions. It has 19,000 capacity and holds sports events and concerts. The Grammy Awards take place annually at the Staples Center. Located next to the LA Convention Center and along Figueoa Street. Outside the arena at the Star Plaza are statues of Wayne Gretzky and Magic Johnson.
025-NOKIA THEATER - The Nokia Theatre is a music and theatre venue located in downtown Los Angeles. And is near Staples Centre. It is one of the largest indoor theatre with 7100 seating capacity. The theatre has hosted the ESPY Awards since 2008 as well as the American Music Awards since 2007. The venue has been the home to the Primetime Emmy Awards since 2008 and will continue to do so until at least 2018. The Nokia Theatre hosted the MTV Video Music Awards in 2010 and 2011. The Nokia Theatre has hosted the People's Choice Awards since 2010.
026-LA CONVENTION CENTER- The Los Angeles Convention Centre is one of the most technologically advanced convention and exhibition centres in the world. It attracts over 2.5 million visitors annually and is renowned internationally as a prime site for conventions, trade shows and exhibitions. LACC is a model environmental-friendly facility. Within the walking distance from Staples Centre and hosts LA Auto Show and Erotica LA convention. The LACC is one of the largest convention centres in the United States.
027-UNION STATION-Los Angeles Union Station is the main railway station in Los Angeles, and is the largest railroad passenger terminal in the Western United States. It opened in May 1939. Today, the station is a major transportation hub for Southern California, providing 60,000 passengers a day access to Amtrak long distance trains, Amtrak California regional trains, Metro link commuter trains and several Metro Rail subway and light rail lines. Union Station is located in the north-eastern corner of Downtown Los Angeles, on the property bounded by Alameda Street, Cesar Chavez Avenue, and the Hollywood Freeway. It is across Alameda Street from L.A.'s historic Olvera Street and El Pueblo de Los Angeles State Historic Park. Three Metro Rail lines (Red, Purple, and Gold) serve the station with about 300 Metro Rail trains departing every weekday.
028-OLVERA STREET-This is the historic centre of Downtown LA and is part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. The city derives its name from the mission established here “The Mission of our Lady the Queen of the Angels”. There are 27 old buildings standing here. Oldest building lies here and is open to visitors. It is across the Union Station. It is also known as Olvera Street, with historic shops, restaurant and several museum like La Placita Olvera and Our Lady Queen of the Angels Church.
029-CHINA TOWN-It is located in the city downtown area and served by Metro-Gold Line .It contains about 15 streets and 200 buildings. The main street running through are Broadway, Spring Street and Hill Street. The Central Plaza a Hollywood zed version of Shanghai .Near Broadway at Central Plaza contains a statue of Dr.Sun Yat-sen -founder of modern China and Thien Hau Temple, Chinatown Wishing Well.
030-CHINESE AMERICAN MUSEUM- The Chinese American Museum is a museum located in Downtown Los Angeles as a part of the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument. It is dedicated to the history and experience of Chinese Americans in the state of California. The museum is housed in the Garnier Building, the oldest surviving Chinese building in Southern California. A permanent exhibit at the museum is the recreation of the Hing Yuen Hong Chinese Herb Shop of yesteryear. Another permanent exhibit opened on December 13, 2012 is "Origins: The Birth and Rise of Chinese American Communities in Los Angeles". During the Chinese New Year celebration each year, a Lantern Festival is held at the museum, featuring live entertainment, including lion dancers, acrobatics, musical, Chinese knotting, and dance performances
031-CHINATOWN CENTRAL PLAZA-It is between North Broadway and North Hill Street. When Chinatown relocated to its current location in the 1930s, the Central Plaza was to be the neighbourhood’s vibrant hub of activity. And while the neighbourhood isn't quite as bustling as it once was, the neon-drenched square still attracts tourists and locals alike with its shops, restaurants and events such as KCRW's Summer Nights.
032-CIVIC CENTER- The Civic Centre neighbourhood of Los Angeles, California is the administrative core of the City of Los Angeles and a complex of city, state, and federal government offices, buildings, and courthouses. The Civic Centre is located in the northern part of Downtown Los Angeles, bordering Bunker Hill, Little Tokyo, Chinatown, and the Historic Core of the old Downtown. An observation level is open to the public on the 27th floor.
033-LOS ANGELES CATHEDRAL (COLA)-The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels at Grand-555, W temple Street .This is a cathedral dedicated to Saint Vibiana and was opened in 2002. The cathedral is widely known for enshrining the relics of Saint Vibiana. A contemporary cathedral designed with virtually no right angles, this building breaks the mold of the classic European cathedral of the middle Ages. As the third largest cathedral in the world, the significance of this building is tied to more than just its architecture, it’s the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, serves more than 4 million Catholic worshipers and is the site of the Archbishop’s major liturgies. The exterior is sand-coloured concrete, with an interior lit during the day by sunlight shining through thousands of alabaster panels. The large bronze doors, the tapestries and other works of art complete the building, making it well worth close inspection.
034-WALTZ DISNEY CONCERT HALL- It is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. It seats 2265 people. Lillian Disney made an initial gift of $50 million in 1987 to build a performance venue as a gift to the people of Los Angeles and a tribute to Walt Disney's devotion to the arts and to the city.
035-ANGELS FLIGHT- Located at Bunker Hill area. It is a landmark of funicular railway. The world's shortest railway, Angels Flight. Built in 1901, the funicular railway carries passengers 298 feet between Hill and Olive streets in Bunker Hill for a fee of just 50 cents. Tracks connect in one route Hill Street and Olive Street and other route Hill Street and California Plaza. You can board one of the two orange and black incline railway cars and ride .This funicular dates back to 1901, when Bunker Hill was one of the most fashionable neighbourhoods in Los Angeles and the cars, Olivet and Sinai, ferried prominent citizens up and down the steep slope between Hill and Olive streets. The landmark was dismantled for "urban renewal" of the area in 1969. In the early 1990s, the Railway was refurbished and relocated a half-block south, reopening adjacent to California Plaza in 1996.
036-LA LIVE-This is an plaza that has emerged as one L.A.’s favourite new gathering places, all right across from the equally popular Staples Center, home of the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Sparks and the Los Angeles Kings and ESPN zone. The Getty Center has installed 28 major sculptures from the collection of the late Fran and Ray Stark. 038- CENTRAL GARDEN AT GETTY CENTER- At the heart of the acclaimed Getty Center is the 134,000 square-foot Central Garden. The design features a natural ravine and tree-lined walkway that leads visitors through a sublime experience of sights, sounds and scents. Continuing through the plaza, the stream cascades over a stone waterfall into the signature floating maze of azaleas surrounded by specialty gardens.
039-LIBRARY TOWER/US BANK TOWER- Formerly known as the Library Tower, the U.S. Bank Tower is one of LA’s most iconic structures, it's the tallest building in California, the tallest west of the Mississippi River, and the tenth tallest in the United States. The U.S. Bank Tower is 73 stories tall, reaches a height of 1,018 feet. A large glass “crown” on top of the building is illuminated at night, and in the lobby a giant mixed-media mural entitled Unity depicts the history of Los Angeles.
040- CALTRANS DISTRICT 7 HEADQUARTERS- Perforated metal panels create a skin that covers exposed structural elements, visible from inside the building’s walkways and interior spaces. At night, the exterior panels open up to reveal windows. The south wall has a photovoltaic system capable of producing up to 5 percent of the building’s energy. Many of the building’s features are meant to evoke the state’s highway system, including the environmental art installation by Keith Sonnier in the outdoor lobby. The area consists of red and blue neon lights meant to suggest automobile head and tail lights. Located at 100 S. Main Street.
041- AMOEBA MUSIC- Music lovers should set aside some time for a detour to Amoeba Music, the world’s largest independent record store. Explore the vast collection of new and used music on the main floor, DVDs upstairs in the mezzanine, or head to the back for jazz and classical. The store regularly hosts guest DJs, record signings, and in-store live performances by everyone from rising stars to Paul McCartney.
042-WATT TOWERS- An Italian immigrant construction worker, Rodia built the 17 interconnected structures in his spare time over the course of 33 years, from 1912 to 1954. A mesmerizing example of vernacular architecture, the steel towers—two which rise to nearly 100 feet—are coated in mortar and adorned with found objects, like bottles, sea shells and ceramic tiles. Tours of the masterpiece take place every half hour Thursday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. General admission costs $7. Also worth exploring are the Watts Towers Arts Center and Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center. Friends of Watts Towers Arts Center (FOWTAC) is a nonprofit corporation created to support the Watts Towers Arts Center in its mission to educate and nurture children and adults through diverse cultural enrichment programming including docent tours of the Towers, lectures, changing exhibitions, and studio workshops for teachers and students.
043-BEVERLY HILLS- Beverly Hills California is synonymous with wealth. The Beverly Hills mansions are some of the largest and most extravagant in the entire country, and date to the period of the 1910s and 1920s when Hollywood began producing iconic movie stars. One of the first structures to serve these stars was the venerable Beverly Hills Hotel, on which construction began in 1911. It stands today and is still a sheltered five-star retreat for the rich and famous. The first Beverly Hills mansion, Pickfair, was built in the 1920s by Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford.
