GEOGRAPHY- Gold Coast is a city in the southeast of Brisbane at 94kms (58miles) and is the sixth most populous city in the country. It is a major tourist destination with sunny subtropical climate, surfing beaches, canal and waterways system. It is separated by Logan City and by Albert River. The city stretches from Beenleigh and Russell Island to New South Wales. The southernmost town of Gold Coast city is Coolangatta .The heavily developed coastal strip sits on a narrow sandbar between waterways and the sea.
HISTORY- Before European settlement, the Gold Coast and hinterland was a natural area of timbered mountains and hills, river valleys. The Yugambeh people lived as family clans generally in the river valleys and estuaries of the region. The first township in the region, Nerang, was surveyed in 1865. The Governor of Queensland, Musgrave, built a seaside home near Southport in 1885, setting a trend for the coast becoming a fashionable resort for the wealthy and influential. A new coastal road, linking Brisbane to the beaches of the coast was completed in 1925.In 1925, Jim Cavill built the Surfers Paradise Hotel near a beautiful surf beach. In 1933, the town which had grown up around the hotel was named Surfers Paradise. Gold Coast was originally known as the South Coast (because it was south of Brisbane). However, inflated prices for real estate and other goods and services led to the nickname of "Gold Coast" from 1950.
Hinterland-The Gold Coast Hinterland is the largely rural area away from the coast. It begins west of the Pacific Motorway, and consists of mountain ranges covered with rainforest, much of which is national parks.
Waterways-Waterfront canal living is a feature of the Gold Coast Seaway. They were built in 1950, much of the land between the coastal strip and the hinterland was once a wetland and was drained by this river and the swamp were converted into man made waterways.

013-TAMBORINE MOUNTAIN GLOW WORM CAVES - The caves consist of two large chambers interlinked by tunnels. The first chamber is the "presentation cave" where you'll be shown an audio-visual display on the Glow Worms. This chamber is complete with very realistic formations such as stalagmites and stalactites, water features and flow stone. From this stunning cave, you will be guided through the magical glow worm cave, filled with thousands of glowing Glow Worms.
Gloworm- The Glow Worm goes through a holometabolic life cycle, a whole transformation from egg to larva, to pupa, to adult. Glow Worms are the larvae of a small fly. The larval stage is the only stage in their life cycle that can glow. The adults are delicate flies that do not have working mouthparts, and as such, only live for a small number of days. As the adults are unable to feed, Glow Worms must gain enough sustenance during the larval stage to get them through the rest of their lifecycle. The larvae are believed to live for approximately one year, although this is heavily dependent on environmental conditions and availability of food. Glow Worms glow to attract small insects that emerge from the leaf litter and water to where the Glow Worms reside, the light they emit is produced by a chemical reaction. The Glow Worms construct "snares" (like a spider's web) made from silk threads and sticky droplets to capture and eat the insects attracted to their glow, which they then feed on. Glow Worms require a permanently moist habitat for their survival and are therefore dependant on rainforests and wet caves for their continued survival.
